Assistance in changing the oil in a transfer case.

Greetings, individuals.
Could someone kindly provide me with some advise, please?

I own a 2004 E53 X5 with an automatic gearbox.
The problem is in experiencing intermittent jolts when decelerating while driving.

I have been informed that it may be necessary to replace the transfer case fluid due to the car's high mileage of 180,000.

Displayed below is a photograph of the recommendation provided to me from my nearby automotive parts retailer.
Can somebody provide a recommendation about the use of this fluid on my transfer case, or have I been deceived?

To ensure reliability, it is advisable to get one litre of DTF from BMW, as recommended by @MamaKiddo. It is not advisable to take the chance, since damaging the transfer case might result in significant expenses. You will not use the whole litre since it only takes around 850 millimetres.

That is my current contemplation. This fluid from Comma has the potential to be effective, but there is also a possibility that it might cause damage to my transfer unit.

I was hoping to find someone who has experience using this fluid on their transfer case and can provide a testimonial for its effectiveness.

The issue arises from the significant uncertainty caused by the fact that the before and after facelift transfer instances are fundamentally different. Being a 04 vehicle, you belong to the post facelift category, exactly as mine. This means you have an active multi-plate wet clutch. The oil selection tools may sometimes malfunction and recommend the use of pre-facelift fluid, which may cause damage to a facelift transfer case. The £30 for DTF is not worth risking.

The shock experienced while decelerating is likely caused by the abrupt transition from second to first gear when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Unfortunately, all of them engage in this behaviour. The only solution is to rebuild the gearbox mechatronic. The actual reason of the issue is still unknown, however, there are many effective solutions available. These include a software update, replacing the fluid and filter, installing new solenoids, using the updated separator plate, and installing new dampers.

An acquaintance of mine had the same problem. The application of new liquid resolved this problem.
I want to begin the process by doing a fluid change and thereafter assess the outcome before proceeding further.

Thank you
