Carbon wheels cost and advice

Hello everyone,

Does anybody have carbon wheels on their cars? What is their appearance? Could you kindly provide pictures?

What was the cost? What's new? Secondhand?

A member of my group is offering to sell me their carbon wheels at $4500 since they are upgrading. Is this pricing reasonable for the set?

Thank you for reading and any suggestions or assistance.

Accepted. Carbon Revolution wheels are original equipment manufacturer for the Mustang Dark Horse and C8 Z06. A set costs between $12,000 and $20,000.

However..Apologies. If I were not monitoring the car's movements, I would never use a set of complete carbon fibre wheels on the street. Forever.

I was examining carbon barrel wheels, which are made by numerous businesses using Dymag barrels and a forged aluminium core to create "carbon" wheels. Weight reductions are not as significant compared to the savings achieved with complete carbon or magnesium wheels. Their cost ranges from around $18,000 to $20,000. It is not worthwhile to me.

Should I get them used, even at a price of $4500? You are unsure whether there was a triggering occurrence for the CF delamination, which requires X-raying the wheel. Regrettably, delaminated wheels might fail suddenly without prior notice. I would not purchase a pre-owned carbon fibre wheel.

I am considering whether magnesium is the best option to choose.

Exactly. The whole CF system breaks suddenly and invariably results in a catastrophic failure. Consider Titan submarine.

Disregard the reduction in unsprung weight. That is the last material I want my wheels built of for a vehicle that I will be driving thousands of miles over many years.

Avant Garde only offers Dymag barrels as their carbon wheels. Based on the lack of visibility of the Dymag logo on the barrels and the very shiny appearance of the weave in comparison to carbon wheels I have seen in real life, I would speculate that they are carbon-wrapped wheels rather than authentic carbon wheels. Without the tyres being installed, you can definitely determine.

I was also doing research. I was unable to locate these items on the avant-garde website as well. Hoping they are indeed carbon. I will get them inspected at my independent store. Currently, I just have a deposit on them.

The carbon lip is the only part that is bonded or laminated.
The quality of the carbon work is subpar in my view.
The picture shows the link between carbon and wave.

It is allowed to wrap the edges of rims if done appropriately, ideally using specialised adhesives instead of resin. A substantial quantity of carbon fibre material is needed to correctly wave or lay it, leading to a notable amount of waste. The roll must be turned when bonding. The whole procedure must be meticulously drawn out and sanded flawlessly to prevent any complications with wheel balance.
