It might be a gasket seal, often including copper or silver flakes. If so, it may indicate head gasket issues from previous owners. Merely an estimate.

After removing the hub and bearing, your technician will proceed to replace the bearing with a new one. There are several locations that provide bearings. Ensure that he does not get an inexpensive one. FAG is a leading company.
