PopeyeR
Hi everyone, I’ve recently come across a company called Grimes Transport while looking for a car on Facebook Marketplace. They’ve got a few cars that seem much cheaper than the usual market prices, which immediately caught my eye. Has anyone here had experience with Grimes Transport for purchasing a car? I would be grateful for any insights or experiences you could share.
Notef
My mate actually drives one of their lorries, so I can confirm they’re a real company. They’ve been doing transport and haulage for a good few years now. I think the selling cars side is quite new though.
Uneripty
Never bought a vehicle from them myself, but I did a brief online search and found numerous testimonials from various individuals who have used their services. That said, always be careful when prices look too good to be true. Ask for proof of ownership, check if the car’s HPI clear, and make sure they send an official invoice mentioning that 10-day inspection / refund policy. Better safe than sorry. Darthilli
I’d still be cautious. If something’s way cheaper than normal, there’s usually a reason for it. There are loads of fake companies out there just make sure they’ll let you view the car in person, that’s the best test of whether they’re genuine or not. Thenornpo
Totally agree with @Darthilli. If they make excuses about viewing the vehicle, or tell you it’s “in storage and only available for delivery,” that’s usually a red flag. A legit company will never have an issue letting you see the car first.
PopeyeR
I actually called them earlier today. The person I spoke to was polite and explained that I can view the car if I want, but the 10-day inspection and refund guarantee only applies to cars that go through their delivery programme. Now I’m unsure what’s better, going up to Belfast to see it myself or using their delivery option. Has anyone done the delivery route before? MutanX
I did, actually! I bought a 2019 Peugeot 3008 from Grimes Transport had the same doubts at first, but honestly, they were great to deal with. They kept me updated by email and even sent a photo of the car being loaded. The car arrived in 8 days to my place in Birmingham. Looked immaculate, I had it inspected at a local garage and confirmed with Grimes Transport that everything was fine only after 3 days!
Boxck
My mum got a Ford Fiesta Titanium from them earlier this year. Delivery took about 9 days to Aberdeen, and she couldn’t be happier with it. All the documents came with it V5C, MOT, and service history. Can vouch for Grimes Transport as they are genuine in every aspect.
PopeyeR
Thanks everyone for the feedback really appreciate it. I’ve decided to go ahead with one of their listings a Kia Sportage they’ve got up at a decent price. Just waiting for the invoice to come through so I can sort the payment. I’ll update this thread when I know more.
WannaVulture
Good choice. I used to work at Grimes Transport in the finance department before moving to Manchester last year. They’ve always been very professional. Payments for vehicles go into a segregated business account, meaning the money stays protected until the buyer confirms that the car has arrived and matches the description. That’s how they handle all these “buy-unseen” cases. They only buy vehicles in solid condition from repossession auctions, and that’s why they offer the 10-day inspection / refund policy it gives buyers peace of mind. Patagil
I’m old-fashioned, still prefer to see a car in person before paying. You can’t always tell from photos what you’re getting. But I have to admit with the way the market going these online car sales are becoming quite normal. If they’ve got a written refund policy and you’re paying into a segregated account, it’s not a bad setup. Just keep all your emails and receipts in case anything goes wrong. Tactical
I spotted a 2018 Mercedes Vito listed by Grimes Transport on eBay earlier. The price made me suspicious at first, but after reading this thread, it sounds like they’re genuine.
PopeyeR
Just a quick update: I made the payment yesterday morning, and I’ve already received a confirmation email from their finance department. They’ve scheduled delivery for next week. I’ll post again once the car arrives.
PopeyeR
The Sportage was delivered today, right on time. The driver phoned about 40 minutes before arriving. The car looks even better than it did in the photos spotless inside and out. All the paperwork was neatly packed in a folder (V5C, MOT, service records). Really pleased with how everything’s gone.
