automobile insurance and tracking devices

This morning, my BMW X5 40i was taken in the UK. Intruders entered my home, searched, and located my key, which was stored in an anti-theft wallet. I do not believe the car is equipped with a dedicated tracker; however, it was outfitted with technology upon purchase. It includes a Thatcham 1 Alarm System with Remote Control and Engine Immobiliser, a M Sport Pro Package, a Technology Package, and the BMW app, which, while not a tracker, provides real-time location updates and features 360-degree cameras. Despite my explicit decision not to install a tracker on the insurance vehicle, my inquiry is whether my insurance necessitates the use of a tracker, given that my policy lacks an endorsement mandating it and the insurer has not requested one. The terms explicitly state: You will not be covered if

Your vehicle was either unlocked or a window or sunroof was ajar.

Your keys were left in or on your vehicle.

Your vehicle lacks a functional security or tracking system.

    Thank you for any comments!

If you own insurance, then a tracker is unnecessary.
If a tracker is required for insurance, I believe documentation would be necessary prior to coverage of your vehicle.

I am uncertain whether documentation is required; you only need to click the box, namely after the market tracker, which is often located at the beginning of quotations on comparison websites, on the first page.

Although not a dedicated tracker, BMW's SOS/app functionalities serve as tracking mechanisms that may be deactivated. My vehicle, which was stolen and then found, had its telematics battery removed by the criminals to disable the emergency SOS feature.

If a tracker was a prerequisite at the policy's commencement, they should have informed you and would likely have requested verification. If a requirement is absent and the checkbox indicating its presence is marked, resulting in a policy discount, the insurance company will then demand evidence of its installation if the vehicle is stolen. If evidence could not be provided, they would undoubtedly reject the assertion.

Based on your statements, the conditions indicate that the claim would be denied if your vehicle lacks an operational security or tracking system; so, the interpretation of "security device" will be crucial.

Thank you, everyone! I was not informed that I need one, nor was there any endorsement for it. I presume everything is OK; I was enquiring to ensure there is not an issue that may unexpectedly arise.

I have conducted quotes both with and without trackers to see whether the insurance premium decreased; it did not, so I did not pursue it further since the Ghost immobiliser/tracker was costly.
