WannaVulture
I purchased a two-and-a-half-year-old BMW 520D (F10) a few months back. Having learned about the EGR problem, I conducted some study. The problem seems to primarily impact cars produced before August 2016. My item was manufactured on September 15, 2016, and has no pending recalls. Therefore, I was startled to get a recall notice for it today. Has the recall been expanded to more current manufacturing dates? Has BMW improved their efficiency in terms of parts availability and providing courtesy/hire cars?
OmahaKnot
I have a 2013 F11 MSport Auto and after researching, it seems that my vehicle was not impacted. However, I got a letter and have made a booking. September is the earliest available date owing to several recalls
WannaVulture
Had a conversation with BMW UK today. It seems that there are two recall programmes related to the EGR, if I am interpreting the information right. The first issue was with the EGR valve, mostly impacting cars manufactured before August 2016. I have experienced a recall related to the EGR cooler, which may impact cars manufactured until the end of 2017. I have scheduled an appointment with my local dealer, hoping for an easy and prompt service. BMW UK informed me that due to my vehicle still being under new car warranty, I am eligible for a courtesy car of the same model. However, the dealer said that they cannot guarantee the availability of the same model and I may get a 3- or even a 1-series car instead. I am OK with receiving my car back the same day provided the inspection confirms it is in good condition. However, it would be disappointing if I wind up with a smaller or more expensive-to-maintain vehicle, such as a petrol car instead of a diesel one, for a long time. Shadesmo
My 2013 530d M Sport is now at BMW Glasgow for EGR replacement. They informed me that there are two versions of EGR available: one can be ordered for next day delivery, while the other is on back order and would take around 3-4 weeks. I have received a 2018 630GT M Sport. I am willing to take my time to repair my own vehicle, regardless of others' opinions.
WannaVulture
Pleasant đŸ™‚ I picked my automobile for its optimal combination of size, performance, and fuel efficiency, rather than opting for a luxurious rental vehicle. I don't want to be trapped with a racer who need frequent refuelling for weeks on end, just as I wouldn't want a roller-skate that conserves resources or a Mondeo car. Shadesmo
I don't understand you. The 630 has the same engine as the vehicle I submitted for recall. It is of a comparable size and, if anything, slightly more fuel-efficient with very similar power. I must have consumed an excessive amount of Magners tonight. WannaVulture
Apologies, I mistakenly interpreted yours as the number 520.
WannaVulture
Providing an update on the current status of the recalls for informational purposes. Today, I brought my vehicle in for inspection and it was determined that the EGR cooler has to be replaced. The pre-ordered parts were installed, and I picked up the item later that day when the replacement was completed. It is likely that there have been significant improvements, notably in the availability of components, since the beginning of the BMW ERG recall situation. The fuel economy during the return travel from the dealer exceeded my expectations. There are several factors that might influence this, and I am uncertain whether the repair completed could damage fuel efficiency. However, I will monitor it closely throughout my next trips. Notef
My 2016 520d F10 underwent a recall for an EGR cooler check. Prior to the recall, my car was achieving approximately 45mpg. However, following the recall, I am now struggling to achieve 35mpg. I am extremely frustrated with BMW, who assert that no changes were made to my car and suggest that this decrease in fuel efficiency could be coincidental or due to other issues that have developed, as well as possibly being influenced by colder weather. Utter rubbish!
WannaVulture
Ouch! My situation is not significantly impacted, I am uncertain whether there has been any change. I see much fluctuation even during repeated routine trips, making it difficult to pinpoint a specific cause.
MutanX
I received a mail about a recall for the EGR. After having it serviced at Sytner BMW Cardiff, the vehicle had stalling issues upon leaving the garage, which improved as it warmed up but recurred after the car cooled down. I have reached out to both the garage and BMW customer care, but they have shown little interest in addressing the issue. I have had issues with Sytner BMW Cardiff and Newport since they do not hire technicians, just those skilled in using computers.
Boxck
I would be going crazy with them.Inform them that it is endangering your life and emphasise the severity of the situation.
