Methods for removing corrosion from wheel nuts

I will be refurbishing my AMG wheels in the next weeks. However, I have noticed that the wheel nuts, which are made of chrome, have become rusty and rusted. What is the most effective method to restore them to their previous condition?

It is possible to get reconditioned or replated items, although the cost may not be any lower than purchasing a new set. Perhaps the individuals responsible for servicing your wheels might provide guidance?

Discard the current ones and get replacements, which may also corrode, or alternatively, purchase protective caps for them. The very fact that they need to be tightened to about 100Nm will always create problems in a region where we apply salt to the roads.

I purchased a set of these accessories for my SLK. To far, they have shown no signs of rust, even after a period of two years and ongoing.

Another method, which was suggested years ago by Television (Rest in Peace), involves using a wire brush to clean the visible parts, inserting the bolts through a box with the threads facing downwards so that just the visible parts are exposed, and then applying a coat of the appropriate colour Hammerite paint using a spray can.

I have attempted the application of Hammerite paint several times. Regrettably, no layer of paint is capable of enduring the force of 100Nm or more exerted by a metal socket. Consequently, the painted surface quickly deteriorates, returning to its original condition. I have made minor adjustments to them (to the best of my ability) while in the vehicle.

I have resorted to using plastic cover covers, although I am not really like of them. However, they seem satisfactory. It is important not to misplace the little plastic tool that accompanies them, since it may be rather challenging to remove the caps without it, depending on the design of the wheel.

Matching the silver/grey colour with plastic caps may be challenging, although the colour is often sufficiently similar.

The price of £30 for 20 bolts is inexpensive. However, it is important to note that the label 'Alloy' indicates that the bolts are not made of aluminium. During the last two years, how often have you worn and removed them? I am really curious about the quality of these bolts.

The MB bolts with reference A0009905407 exhibit excellent corrosion resistance and are highly resistant to rust. Additionally, they are easy to maintain and keep clean.

They are not suitable for my automobile.

The automobile has had intermittent use, mostly being stored in a garage. However, it has been exposed to damp conditions on a few occasions over that period.
