Captiva
Greetings everyone, I own an E400 Cabriolet equipped with 19-inch wheels. The experience is horrible. The front tires are 235/35/R19. I want to increase the profile of the tire. Is it OK to go to 235/40/R19? The rear tire is 255/30/R19. Am I able to modify them to 255/35/R19? My tire technician agrees, but he also advised checking the forum as well. I prefer not to switch to 18-inch alloys, since I have just had these wheels refurbished. Any guidance would be welcomed. Thank you, everyone.
Angurita
The modification you are suggesting will impact the precision of your speedometer.

Captiva
Thank you for that. An really beneficial instrument. My subsequent inquiry is to the stated increase in ride height of 12mm, which poses no issue for me. My speedometer's accuracy will be -3.5%. If the speedometer indicates 30 mph, my real speed is 28.9 mph. Do you believe this little alteration will result in any complications? Thank you for your assistance. Hypabl
It will likely enhance the accuracy of your speedometer, since they often underreport from the factory. The clearance of the front wheel arch liners at full lock is my primary worry.
Angurita
Typically, to augment the sidewall, one would decrease the wheel size to maintain comparable rolling resistance and, as ALFA indicates, eliminate any concerns with tire contact with wheel arches or liners
Spiderer
It is likely to be satisfactory. The primary worry would be the compression of the arch lip, inner arch, or suspension. There exists a little potential that it might disrupt electronics if it alters the equilibrium of rotational velocities between the front and back axles. The ramifications of speedometer readings and insurance must also be taken into account. As I said, it will likely be acceptable. Do not be very disheartened if you fail to see an improvement in riding comfort. If you want to proceed, ensure you take a substantial amount of placebo to validate the decision to change. 😁👍🏻
MutanX
18-inch wheels and tires will enhance ride quality, however they will never achieve limousine-level comfort.
AmericaMonster
Who is the tire manufacturer? My vehicle was equipped with Continental 5 P tires, and the ride quality might have been improved. I switched to Goodyear Assi 5, resulting in a more controlled and pleasant ride.As others have said, it will never resemble a limousine. Mercedes does not recommend altering tire dimensions. Your vehicle ought to possess staggered tires; nonetheless, the wheels are of uniform size. I attempted to increase the rear tire size on my vehicle, but saw a change in handling and promptly reverted to the appropriate size. I really regret no longer own my automobile. I trust you will resolve the issue.
CrawlerTagz
Some tires provide a superior riding quality. Conduct research both here and online. Consider testing a decrease of one or two psi prior to investing in the tires. Are the shocks and suspension in proper condition? I had 18-inch wheels on my E350 coupe and have 19-inch wheels on the new E400 coupe. I concur that the ride is somewhat more challenging; but, the previous tires were subpar and excessively worn (the name escapes me). Consequently, I replaced them with Hankook tyres, which have improved the performance. I execute them a psi under the book.
MutanX
The rear wheels are typically broader in a staggered configuration.
