Videoman
I contacted the insurance, Elephant, who sent me to Autoglass. I would need to pay £115 for a standard windscreen. I insisted on an OEM-approved Mercedes branded windscreen, to which they responded that I must consult my insurance provider, since the excess is £115 in addition to £330 for the installation of an OEM screen. The vehicle is equipped with rain-sensing wipers and automatic lighting. Auto Glass has verified that they can do onsite calibration, eliminating the need to visit Mercedes. I am attempting to get my insurance to cover the OEM windscreen, however I am not optimistic owing to the vehicle's age. Should I go for the generic windscreen or incur the extra expenses for an OEM windscreen?
Cincoon
It's a windscreen, as long as it's excellent enough quality and is compatible with your auto wipers and lights, I would opt for the aftermarket one.
Mindumer
Auto glass installed a non-OEM windscreen on our V220. All components have been calibrated and function well; nevertheless, there is a little creaking noise, which sometimes triggers the dashcam when encountering a pothole. Unable to get an OEM screen at now owing to lack of availability.
Ziinsig
Hello - I own a 2014 W212 E350 and had the windscreen replaced a few years before. The insurers, Mercedes' proprietary insurance sponsored by Markerstudy, declined to install an OEM Mercedes-stamped windscreen, stating they would only do so for vehicles less than 12 months old. I acquired the insurance with the premise that they exclusively use authentic Mercedes components and authorised dealers, which left me quite displeased. The screen was calibrated and installed by auto glass at the Mercedes Brentford main dealership. The wipers were improperly aligned, necessitating a visit to my residence for rectification. In the process of this second repair, they broke the engine cover cowl in the engine bay which i thankfully saw and which, after 5 months, they replaced. I have seen that the screen frosts over inside the vehicle during the cooler nights of the year, leading me to question if the seals were properly installed. Perhaps I was only unfortunate, but if you go for aftermarket components, ensure that you meticulously inspect everything once completion. I trust this will be beneficial. Videoman
My insurance, Elephant, and Autoglass have declined to pay the expense of replacing the windscreen of my car owing to its age and the associated expenses. They said that their policy mandates the installation of generic/non-OEM windscreens. I will verify everything when collecting the car.
Videoman
Will the adaptive headlights ILS and rain-sensing wipers on my car need calibration with the installation of a new windscreen?
FreexPatty
Yes they will and the windscreen business will be allowed to do this. Installing these sorts of screens necessitates that the vehicles be transported to the depot rather than changed on-site.
Videoman
Best regards, The appointment is scheduled for a couple of weeks from now, with Autoglass doing the work at their depot. I will address the calibration when dropping off the car.
Videoman
The windscreen was finally installed by Autoglass, using the Fuyao brand. The technician said that they are installing more Fuyao windscreens than Pilkington, and that Fuyao is also used in other German automobiles. Thus far, everything is satisfactory; the clarity is likely due to the new windscreen. 😁 Autoglass additionally adjusted the wipers and automatic lighting; it is hoped that the windscreen matches the quality of the OEM Mercedes screen. AmericaMonster
The outcome will depend on the fitter's expertise, not the manufacturer's proficiency.
