WannaVulture
Greetings. I own a 2019 Evoque R Dynamic in the standard trim level. The rear passenger indicator has ceased functioning. I saw that there has been condensation in the light fixture for many months. This week, I visited the main dealer for a different problem. They said that for the indication, it is not a matter of changing a bulb, but rather the full light unit, which would incur a cost of £481. That seems to be irrational. Is this accurate? Is it not possible to simply replace the malfunctioning indicator? Thank you.
SlayNeo
Regrettably, LED lights are sold as full units (whatever happened to 50-pence bulbs.... :D). Water penetration is covered under warranty if severe; otherwise, a new unit is necessary.
WannaVulture
The warranty has expired, thus that option is not viable. Thank you for confirming the unfavourable news. Where have the lights gone that we can replace? I will search eBay and attempt to replace the device myself; I refuse to pay the exorbitant rates suggested by the major vendor. Racerse
Numerous options are available on eBay starting at around £70; however, purchasing second-hand items may lead to similar problems. I substituted my rear with fresh old stock from LR parts two years ago for £150.
Mindumer
It is entirely exploitative for profit. Manufacturers prefer that users are unable to replace even a £10 headlight bulb, as they struggle to enhance its worth. The whole headlight or tail lamp is constructed as a sealed unit, necessitating the purchase of the complete assembly upon any failure. Consequently, they render the washer bottle cap almost inaccessible for the majority of customers, necessitating a visit to the dealership, where they impose a £250 per hour work fee. Purpose for existence accomplished. Maximum funds stolen from consumers' pockets!
engrol
LEDs have superior longevity and reliability. I sold my 14-year-old L320 Range Rover Sport with its original rear LED lights. I assume that the problem lies in the design and manufacturing quality, which permits moisture infiltration and retention. LEDs operate at far lower temperatures than traditional bulbs, preventing moisture from evaporating; yet, LR is content to consider this a problem. I am uncertain if other manufacturers have the same issue; nevertheless, if they do, I think they face similarly exorbitant replacement prices. I acknowledge your argument about their non-repairability, and it indeed suggests a tendency towards profiteering, since they likely only cost a few tens of pounds to manufacture. Racerse
I had condensation problems with my prior MY16 Golf GTI, which was brand new from the manufacturer. As you said, LEDs produce less heat, resulting in insufficient warmth inside the lenses to dissipate moisture. Despite the back of my 2017 Evoque ceasing to function, moisture was often evident. I resealed the driver's side, which has since performed well.
