engrol
We will be departing for the Higherlands on Friday, August 30th. For a duration of one week or longer. We are unable to depart Derbyshire until 2pm, which will result in us passing through Glasgee somewhere after 6:30pm. The first night will be spent at Arrochar. I am enquiring about the probability of encountering heavy traffic congestion on the M74/M8 route towards the Erskine Bridge. I am considering the possibility of taking a substantial stop in the Borders and using the road at a later time. It would be advantageous to get to the Village Inn early enough to have dinner. On the next day, we may drive at a relaxed pace to Inverness, passing via Loch Awe and perhaps taking a few enjoyable hikes along the way.
AmericaMonster
The M8 will be closed in both directions overnight on the next weekends for bridge work. The specific time of closure at night is unknown, thus it would be advisable to do more inquiry. The M8 has heavy congestion most nights, regardless of the time of travel, resembling a carpark. Consider taking the exit at Junction 5 of the M74 and travelling via East Kilbride, Clarkston, Nitshill, and Paisley before reaching the M8 and continuing to the Erskine Bridge. This route will allow you to avoid using the M8 through Glasgow completely.
engrol
According to my understanding, the closures will be in effect for the next two weekends, which means those weekends will be free for us. However, it is advisable to revisit the matter at a later time to ascertain the possibility of more closures. Will your alternative route remain effective if the M74 / M8 is accessible? https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/glasgow-motorists-warned-disruption-m8-29603898
AmericaMonster
Travelling from Glasgow West bound on the M8 to the Erskine Bridge during rush hour is a risky endeavour. It will inevitably extend the trip by a minimum of 45 minutes. However, the advantage is that the route is straightforward. On the other hand, venturing via EK and other unfamiliar roads without prior knowledge might result in much more time being wasted, especially if one gets lost or encounters roadworks. It is advisable to do a traffic assessment upon approaching Glasgow on the day, since the conditions may vary hourly, as seen today by a vehicle overturning on the M8, resulting in its closure. Cincoon
You should be unaffected, since the traffic often dissipates by 6:30. Additionally, you will be travelling via the M74, which allows you to bypass the most problematic section of the M8 that passes through the city and across the Kingston Bridge. There may be some traffic congestion near the intersection of M77/M8/M74, but if you position yourself in the correct lane, you will be able to easily bypass it. Meltarb
I am unable to provide a comprehensive or satisfactory response to this question. However, based on my recent experiences over the past two days, while travelling from North Ayrshire (entering the M8 at Glasgow Airport) to Cambuslang and returning via the same route, everything has been satisfactory. There have been no significant issues, except for major accidents, which are unavoidable in any location. Based on the topic I am seeing, it seems that you are likely making good progress. Today, around the late morning or mid afternoon, I went down the M8 in both directions, from west to east and again from east to west, passing by Glasgow airport without seeing any abnormalities. I really wish for your trip to be successful and devoid of any difficulties. I will monitor this topic closely, but please let me know if you have any problems. The premier Mercedes-Benz expert in Scotland is Merparts, located in Port Glasgow. Merparts Ltd is an independent and highly reputable Mercedes-Benz specialist. Many other members would confirm that the company is operated by three brothers, all of them were once MB master technicians (the highest degree) before they departed to establish their own business.Several more individuals have provided favourable comments on the services they received at that establishment. If you are located around Port Glasgow and need a tow, please contact me. I would be delighted to provide assistance. That is the essence of becoming a member of a club. Meltarb
My friend, If necessary, my phone number has been redacted - please send a private message instead. If you ever find yourself in a difficult situation and need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me. Although I may not be able to retrieve your automobile, I can arrange for you and your family to be taken to a hotel near a train station. This offer stands in case your car won't be available for use in the near future. If there is any local recovery required within my vicinity, I am willing to provide it free of charge. This offer also extends to club members within a 50-mile radius of Glasgow, with the condition that the recovery ends in Glasgow. However, for recoveries outside of this area, I would need to request reimbursement for the cost of petrol. This would involve filling up the tank before departure, obtaining a receipt, refilling the tank upon drop off, and requesting the recovered party to cover the expenses. I believe this arrangement is fair. Nevertheless, I maintain the belief that this is the essence of being a club member; I am curious to know whether anybody else shares this sentiment and would be inclined to assist other members either with a nearby tow or a more extensive one. Could our club establish a nationwide network to assist stranded members by arranging transportation to local MB dealerships, motels for overnight stays or MB independent specialists? As club members, we would not have any obligations. However, if assisting in transporting club members to a dealership or an independent Mercedes-Benz service centre would be beneficial, we would consider it fulfilled. If the stranded club members merely want to return home, leaving their vehicle at Indy/dealership, they might consider making a trip to the next major train station. Others, please remark - may we, as members, give this to other frequent and familiar members in a generic manner? I am referring to those who join the club for a short period of time and then want a tow over the whole length of Britain - such individuals would need careful examination. Meltarb
I should have clarified that I would not take any phone calls while I am driving, but I will return any missed calls after I have found a safe place to stop.
Jollyno
Number omitted. I highly discourage disclosing your personal number on a public forum - anyone may privately message you to get it.
engrol
Extremely benevolent. Transporting an extra-long Viano may exceed your expectations. Additionally, there is the exuberant puppy weighing over 60 kilogrammes that drools on various objects. Hopefully everything will go well, but the "get me home recovery" option might be appropriate if anything goes wrong. Despite the previous occurrence of the AC compressor seizing and shredding the belt, I waited for their arrival for a duration exceeding 3 hours. Thank you, I will consider your offer.
