TigerDrummer
The car is a 2010 Mercedes E-Class. Experienced a distressing situation with injectors and seals. The leak off pipe has broken. When removing the injectors. We had to replace two fuel injectors. Two injector bolts broke while attempting to tighten them, perhaps because the torque wrench was adjusted too high by the neighbour. My buddy attempted to drill them out, but the task was unsuccessful. The car's engine would crank but fail to start, leading me to suspect the presence of an airlock. Attempted to reprogram the 2 new injectors, but inadvertently cleared all 6 of the codes and was unable to restore them, perhaps due to a low battery causing the appearance of code erasure. Additionally, the numbers on 3 of the injectors are not visible. The automobile was sent to an engine repair facility at a cost of £100. The garage contacted me today to inform that two injectors have been installed in the vehicle. The cost for addressing the issue of the broken bolts amounts to £420. The person informed me that the automobile is not starting, which I suspect is due to an airlock. They said that they had attempted to start it for a while but have been unsuccessful. I advised them to continue their efforts, but I am uncertain about the potential cost involved. Does anybody have any hypotheses as to the cause of this occurrence? The car was operational prior to removing the injectors. Thank you
AmericaMonster
Regrettably, without more detailed information, it is challenging to provide a helpful recommendation on the precise cause of the engine's failure to start. The presence of another individual who confidently asserts that their speculation is the solution is the least desirable scenario for you. However, for what it's worth, this thread might serve as a valuable "warning example" for anybody considering the proposition of hiring an unqualified individual for a monetary payment. Lemmand
Despite many attempts to bleed the system, my CDI 270 engined Jeep remained unable to start. Injecting a brief burst of easy start into the intake while revving the engine results in it starting within seconds. In my opinion, the pumps fail to provide sufficient pressure upon starting the engine due to the presence of air in the lines. It is advisable to refrain from excessive cranking if the engine does not start, since the diesel fuel running through the pumps serves as their only lubrication. w4rlock
The 270 engine did not come equipped with a lift pump. It would be straightforward to demonstrate that the lift pump was providing gasoline as intended.
Angurita
Well done, my friend. Certain types of transit vans included a comparable feature. The fuel level sensor in the tank malfunctions, causing the van to mistakenly believe that the tank is empty. As a result, the van cuts off the lift pump to prevent the intake of air into the high pressure side. The original poster (OP) did not specify the specific mechanics being used, but it seems to be related to turning the engine without it starting. Any reputable mechanic shop should have the ability to resolve this issue.
w4rlock
I would have expected them to be able to identify the problem at the very least. My process involves searching for codes, verifying the fuel's location, and inspecting for excessive leak off at one or more injectors. However, a diagnostic check would detect the inability to achieve the required fuel pressure level, which is necessary for the engine to start. Basic diagnostic readers are capable of doing the task. Ziinsig
have you taken the vehicle to a Mercedes-Benz expert for recovery?
Tactical
It is quite improbable if you carefully read the first topic. 🤔
Ziinsig
Indeed. However, I was curious whether the original poster had symbolically abstained from physically striking oneself in the face as of now.
TigerDrummer
After spending £600 (or £1,200 including the cost of the injector seal process and recovering the car to the garage to remove the drilled bolts), the car still fails to start. The garage is unable to determine the cause, initially suggesting a lack of compression and later mentioning a lack of fuel pressure. However, the car was running perfectly before I removed the injectors to replace the seals.
TigerDrummer
Is it possible that the two new injectors are defective? I prefer not to remove them as it would incur a cost of £600 to reinstall. Additionally, the injector codes have been lost and I am unable to rewrite them due to the fading on the injector.
depofly
Even if two injectors were not functioning, I would have expected the engine to start, to some extent, with the other four injectors operating. Prior to further delving into the issue, it is advisable to take the vehicle to a reputable Mercedes-Benz expert who can thoroughly examine the automobile. It is not the opportune moment to engage in a game of chance with repairs, as doing so in the past resulted in negative consequences.
