Supercharger by ESS for the M156 C63

Hello everyone.

ESS has just introduced a supercharger kit for the M156. If you have prior experience with BMW vehicles, you will be familiar with the equipment used in the E90 M3, which consistently allows it to achieve horsepower levels over 600hp.

Regardless, the C63 kit seems to be promising due to its unique placement of the cooler. Is it superior than Weistec? I am uncertain, but it seems that they have shown meticulousness and the outcome is really pleasing. The cost is far more favourable compared to Weistec, making it difficult to overlook.

What is the disadvantage? If you need an ESS tune, your Engine Control Unit (ECU) must be sent to ESS. However, it is worth noting that ESS is now collaborating with Eurocharged to develop a tune, which may be inconvenient. Nevertheless, it is possible that Acid/MSL might provide a personalised tune.

Does anybody have knowledge about the process of installing a supercharger? Is it feasible to install the necessary hardware and operate the vehicle in order to transport it to a location such as MSL for the purpose of tuning?

They provide two kits, one equipped with bigger injectors and one without. Additionally, several pulleys are available to accommodate varied fuel grades.

Without the tune, it will be impossible to accommodate the blower and operate it. What is preventing you from sending the ECU to ESS? Place it inside the box and send it via expedited shipping. The item will return before you finish fastening all the components together.

Installing a supercharger will not pose any difficulties for those who possess technical and mechanical aptitude. Most likely a task that can be completed within one or two days.

My first consideration would be the level of assistance provided. I have just paid a significant amount of money, around 6-7 thousand pounds plus value-added tax on import. My supplier is located in a different country, namely across the Atlantic Ocean, and there is a time difference of 7 hours between us (referring to the headquarters of ESS).

On the contrary, MSL/Weistec is located in Birmingham. Is the cost savings significant compared to the Weistec kit? The decision is yours to make.

I was informed that there are two kits. 1. The tuning kit. Intended for someone like Acid who can create their own blueprint for it.
2. Basic equipment. The new version is identical, except it has larger injectors and a map that can be sent and programmed using a laptop.

There is no need to be concerned about ESS (Employee Self-Service) and customer service/support.

Since 2009, I have installed one of their kits on my BMW E39 M5 and driven over 60,000 miles with it. Exceedingly pleasant, without a doubt.

If you visit Facebook and become a member of the C63 AMG UK group, you will find that Boon Kang is one of the administrators. If you are really interested, he can provide assistance with any inquiries since he has just installed an ESS supercharger.

Discuss the phenomenon of resurrecting old threads.
I believe that M5 London did not make an inquiry. He recently referred to the E39 M5.

Indeed, the ESS tuning supercharger is a commendable piece of equipment.
Operating at a pressure of 8 pounds per square inch. I plan to do a test with a pressure of 9 pounds per square inch (psi) next year.

I had a tense situation yesterday. The Electronic Control Unit malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to enter limp mode.
It seems that the issue is caused by excessive pressure on the accelerator pedal, particularly the use of the kickdown button when in high gears. Laughing out loud.
STAR diagnostics detected many non-specific error codes.
Simply need to observe and be patient!

I recall using my E39 M5 vehicle subsequent to installing the ESS supercharger package, namely in the year 2010.

You are familiar with the remaining details, my friend, with great expressions of happiness 🙂

Although there may be some minor initial difficulties, once everything is resolved, the setup is excellent. I managed to accumulate over 50,000 miles on it over a span of 4 years. No problems whatsoever.

Take pleasure in your newly arranged configuration.

PS: Early adopters, such as myself, noted years ago that the throttle actuator was coming into contact with a slightly elevated fuel rail (after installing upgraded injectors), resulting in problems under wide open throttle (WOT). I only need a little adjustment to the fuel rail, and then everything was in proper working order. Have you encountered a similar experience? Essentially, the ECU was displeased with the input it received about the location of the throttle pedal. This feedback was related to the throttle actuator, which was causing friction with the fuel rail.

EDIT: Additionally, please investigate the potential implementation of methanol injection, specifically in the context of a non-intercooled configuration. Utilising an Aquamist system really enhanced the whole experience. I am delighted to facilitate an introduction between you and Richard, who is the proprietor of Aquamist. After much investigation, I concluded that he produces the most superior kits in the world. I mainly used it for the purpose of reducing the intake air temperatures (IATs), while also benefiting from the methanol component in the mixture, which provided a favourable increase in octane levels, similar to the effects of using high-performance racing fuel.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to Asbjorn Bohn or Hans Kirkerod, the founders and proprietors of ESS. Please inform me if you want to get their email addresses. (I am assuming that they have not been acquired in the last 9 years or so)
