The handbrake fails to activate.

Hello everyone, I'm curious if anybody has had any difficulties with the switch used to engage the handbrake on a new sportage vehicle? When I stopped at Tesco to refuel, I saw that the handbrake would not engage when I pulled back on the button next to the steering wheel. I called the dealer, but they informed me that the earliest appointment available is in the middle of July. Once again, similar to the previous issue with the ppf filter, it seems that there is another problem with these automobiles. Depending on the nature of the issue, it might need several hours of work, as I was informed.The handbrake fails to activate.

Will the lever function properly if Auto Hold is selected? I have never used the lever on these vehicles before, but the Auto Hold feature has consistently functioned well.

Fortunately, it is functioning well, so it is not the end of the world. However, a replacement component has been ordered, but there is a 7-week wait for the repair.

It is fortunate that you may continue to operate your vehicle without any safety concerns. There have been several reports, not only on this platform but also on other Kia Sportage forums, about the malfunctioning of the parking brake switch/lever. It seems that this component is not sufficiently durable when used often.

It seems that the dealership was aware of the problem and ordered the component without inspecting it first, suggesting that they may have had similar difficulties with the handbrake switch in the past.

I have used the switch on a single occasion, specifically when the automobile required storage without being well dried. When shutting off the automobile, make sure to keep the switch in the 'off' position to prevent the brake from engaging and causing friction on the discs.
Aside from that, I have never interacted with it. Simply keep the autohold feature on.

Oh. I was unaware of it. On several occasions, it is more convenient to use the switch than of manually turning off AH and then remembering to put it back on.

I apologise, but your statement has caused me to feel perplexed. May I inquire about the specific generation of Sportage you possess? In the 4th generation, it is necessary to engage Auto Hold for each journey. However, in the 5th generation, once it is on, it remains active until manually switched off.

This is the most recent one. According to Trailman, he turns it off. Do you need to turn it back on afterwards? Like you, I typically keep the brake engaged and only sometimes disengage it when I need to park, using the brake switch.

If you deactivate the auto hold feature before to coming to a stop, the parking brake will not engage.

Are you implying that if you deactivate it, it will reactivate itself automatically?

Typically, I deactivate the Auto Hold feature while parking since it facilitates manoeuvring the vehicle at low speeds. Therefore, I use the handbrake switch due to the absence of an automatic hold feature in my previous vehicle, and I have not yet broken the habit. Undoubtedly, it is a great advantage in congested traffic situations.

Thenornpo, I only deactivate it while manoeuvring or reversing to enhance my control. Otherwise, I keep it activated. If I deactivate it, it remains deactivated; if I activate it, it remains activated. I believe I have manually engaged the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) a few times since we acquired the vehicle in late March.

I have never had any problems when doing manoeuvres such as reversing. I only use the handbrake to prevent the vehicle from sliding on wet brake discs. The AH is continuously operational.

Although I may be mistaken, the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) does not activate the disc brakes on Sportages. Instead, Sportages are equipped with inboard drum brakes for the parking brake. This is the method that Kia used to include the parking brake in previous models of the Sportage.

Possibly, but, if the vehicle or brakes are wet and left on, there will be a significant clunking sound when you start moving. If you refrain from turning it on, there will be no consequences.

Similarly, I have not used the parking brake at all. My vehicle has always been on auto hold, and I have not found the need to turn it off while doing various moves.
