Sumoto
It might be a gasket seal, often including copper or silver flakes. If so, it may indicate head gasket issues from previous owners. Merely an estimate.

Sumoto
My intuition seems accurate. Some gasket seals, such as K seal, utilise copper while others use stainless steel. It is difficult to discern whether the substance in question is metal shavings, dust, or overspray. If it were indeed metal shavings, they would not be visible. The liquid in the image appears more like water than oil. If it is oil, then the level is excessively high. Could you provide more context about the image? Where is the oil cap located? KnightNewscast
Hello Sumoto, I appreciate your timely answers, friend. I lack expertise on automotive matters. Approximately two years ago, I had an oil leak, and this image was one of the ones my technician shared with me. Currently experiencing an unusual problem where my 4 series is loosing oil pressure specifically at highway speeds. Most postings on this topic report low oil pressure at idle or while braking, with pressure increasing as RPMs grow. In contrast, my issue is the reverse. I suspect I may have harmed my engine since the oil pressure indicator has illuminated twice while I was driving at 70mph, leading me to overanalyze and inquire about metal shavings. I just had her undergo a comprehensive service, including a flush and oil change. However, the pressure lamp illuminated for the second time on my trip back home yesterday night. Exasperated!
