Strongspoi
This is my 2015 Audi A5 coupe, model year 2.0 TDI. A mechanic in my area informed me that the cambelt intervals are now 140,000 miles! If anyone knows for sure, this must be true. My mistake; I meant 80,000 or four years. Yet, according to him, it is not necessary at this time. Much obliged. BizarreBleak
Look around these forums; you'll see that Audi's recommendation for cambelt renewal has fluctuated over the years, from about 80,000 to 140,000 and everything in between. Most people in the trade forum agree that 80,000 miles, or five years, is a good benchmark. The cost of the repair is high, but it pales in comparison to the cost of replacing the engine due to a cambelt failure.
Thenornpo
By 2020, shouldn't the cambelt assembly have been changed? It all comes down to your level of bravery and how long you plan on keeping it, because an adventurous owner might go against what Audi currently recommends. The present mileage, may I inquire? Strongspoi
I am grateful, It didn't seem like my mechanic was interested in doing it, and he was firm that it wasn't essential. There have been 146,000 miles total, with the last service being performed in 2022 at 96,000 (the paperwork was supplied by the garage right before I purchased the vehicle). I plan to keep this car until it becomes too expensive to maintain, as is the case with all of them. My last Audi a6 lasted until it was seventeen years old, with sixty thousand miles on the odometer.
Thenornpo
Going forward, I intend to renew the assembly next year, following the previous directive of "... or 5 years..." since it is definite. When it was last renewed, were parts from the main dealer used? That's the unknown here. If it isn't, your mechanic has no right to say that the vehicle can go 14,450 kilometers since its last renewal.
Finestey
If he is unwilling to complete the task, look for another mechanic.
