Syncephe
I have an E39 complete vehicle that I purchased for the engine and automatic transmission. I'm thinking of swapping it out for an M52 in my e30 BMW, which is a common swap, but I'd like to retain the automatic transmission. However, I had a chance encounter with a rac man who said that the automatic transmission uses the anti-lock brakes to shift gears, and my e30 doesn't have those. Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
MamaKiddo
The gearbox ECU will enter limp mode as soon as it detects speed data from the rear ABS sensor, so I don't see this working. The software systems are ten years distant, so I wouldn't be convinced it would work even if your E30 met ABS specs.
Syncephe
Well, that was disappointing. Thank you for getting back to me.
MamaKiddo
If the program can be overwritten, it could be worth requesting a re-mapper. It doesn't cost anything to ask.
Jollyno
There ought to be a simple solution; the box isn't very sophisticated to begin with, and getting a speed indication should be a breeze. To begin with, it doesn't see nearly enough to function. It's probably just revolutions per minute (rpm), speed, pedal position, and maybe coolant temperature, but I can't be sure. Syncephe
I have called a number Indi garages, but they are unwilling to divulge any information on my gearbox, which is a 2000 vehicle with sport mode and step or triptronic, the system that allows you to ascend and descend the gearbox.
