Insurance for the GLC 250d

Greetings, everyone.

I am interested in purchasing a GLC 250d AMG Line Premium plus 67plate for my wife. I am now operating a Volkswagen Touran with a 2.0 litre engine that produces 140 brake horsepower. On insurance comparison websites, the most affordable option is priced at £1110. She is 45 years old and has had a valid driver's licence since 1998. The cost of Touran insurance is £320. I was not anticipating the insurance to be that costly. I may need to reassess and explore other options. Are there any other insurance firms that we might consider?

I don't believe that the automobile itself is solely responsible for the significant increase in insurance premiums. While it may have contributed to some extent, the most of the rise can be attributed to the current volatile insurance market.

Currently, there are many ongoing discussions where the majority of participants are reporting significant rises in their renewal quotes.

My spouse operates a GLC 250 from 1967, with Aviva insurance. In the first year, she paid £310, and this year in May, she paid £526 due to a non-fault claim resulting in the complete write-off of a GLE vehicle.
I firmly believe that next year, unless there is a significant shift in the market, which I find unlikely, she will have to pay a higher amount. However, I hope that the increase will not be as substantial as the figure you have received.

These insurance firms must recoup their losses in profitability caused by the COVID period and its impact on automobile values and repair expenses.

Is the amount of £310 that you mentioned a quotation for renewing the Touran, or is it the premium that you paid last year? Consider obtaining many insurance estimates for your wife's current vehicle, as you may discover a comparable increase in premiums compared to the previous policy.

Motor insurers are now providing compensation for significant increases in costs related to labour, parts, automobile rentals, and write-offs. However, they are really providing more compensation than necessary, which may be seen as taking advantage of us.

Transitioning from an older MPV to a more recent 'luxury' SUV will not be beneficial. What is the disparity in value if they were required to write it off?
Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are often more susceptible to theft or damage, as confirmed by the experiences of Rolls-Royce owners.

If you increase your excess amount and explore other options, including those not included on comparison sites, you may find better deals. However, if you are financing the purchase of the MB, the additional cost on your monthly payments would be around 10% (this calculation involves some subjective reasoning).

You might extend the funding period by an additional 6 months in order to reduce its impact.

If the subject is not related to money, consider purchasing the insurance in advance to get a discount of 10% or more on the total cost. This is the action I undertook throughout the current year. Agonising but logical.

Is the Volkswagen Tiguan, an SUV from VW, a viable alternative if the key determining element for the ranking is the Mercedes-Benz brand?

The maximum value of the VW Touran is £1000, whereas the GLC is priced at over £27,000.

I am not purchasing the GLC via a financing arrangement. Typically, I pay for vehicle insurance in full upfront. However, if the rates are too exorbitant, I may choose to pay on a monthly basis or use a zero percent credit card.

The lady prefers to purchase a Mercedes GLC or a BMW X3 instead of another Volkswagen.

The new premium seems much less expensive, considering that you are insuring something with a value that is 27 times higher, for just thrice the cost. It might be considered a great deal!

Oh my!
Here is your solution. I didn't give much consideration to the disparity in worth, since I never expected that we would be discussing such a substantial discrepancy. Regrettably, I inexplicably had the VW Tiguan in mind as a defence.
I apologise for not taking the time to carefully consider the complexities of the current insurance market before jumping into my discussion.

My argument remains valid, but not as strongly as I first believed.

Wishing you success in your hunt. The automobile is aesthetically pleasing and performs well on the road. May the numerical calculations provide results that meet the desired criteria.

Excluding the really unusual autos, I have discovered that both the value and performance of a car do not much impact insurance prices. The premium is mostly influenced by the risk profile of the manufacturer, model, person/occupation, and geographical location, rather than any other factors.

Last year, I paid a total of £960. Out of curiosity, I obtained a new quotation this year and the minimum amount has increased to £1400. The situations remain unchanged.
I had a same situation with an S5 sportback that I was considering, and the price difference was about £3k.

The value in this context is undoubtedly a crucial determinant. I experienced a significant change while transitioning from a 2016 registered E 350 to a 2018 registered GLC 350 coupe, which came as a shock to me. However, as previously stated, the value of the car to be insured was twice as much.
