Liveek
Greetings. I just purchased a 2007 Mini with a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine and 108,000 miles on it. The vehicle has a 6-speed gearbox. I need a new clutch, so I proceeded to replace it. Additionally, because the sub frame and exhaust were already off, I took the opportunity to replace the oil pan gasket. Discovered several miscellaneous items in the pickup truck. The washer was located inside the oil pump, positioned just under the chain and enclosed by the plastic cover. The car operated well without any audible disturbances, however it failed to move due to a malfunctioning clutch. Upon inspecting the pump and windage tray, I have seen no discernible damage to the pistons or cylinder walls. Uncertain about the earlier repair done on the timing chain, but no visible damage was seen on the guides.
Jollyno
The plastic fragments resemble components of the chain guides, while the metal fragments may belong to the top hat guide. Remove the rocker cover and inspect it briefly. It would be advisable to install a complete timing chain (TC) kit from FAI, including sprockets, guides, and tensioner. Additionally, examine the metal rings on the ends of the cams. If the cap is not significantly damaged, a thorough polishing and replacement with a genuine BMW upgrade should provide assistance. You may need to consider replacing some components such as piston rings, oil pump chain/sprocket, bore hone, and valve stem oil seals to renew your engine. Jollyno
At this stage, doing a visual inspection or using a boroscope to examine the plug holes may uncover any potential damage.
Liveek
Tomorrow, I will get a bore scope in order to visually inspect anything. The valve cover has been removed for replacement, and upon first inspection, no damaged or missing components are visible. However, I will conduct a more thorough examination. Thank you for responding!
depofly
I need assistance in removing the sump, as it is likely to contain a significant amount of debris. Additionally, it is necessary to remove the oil pump, as it may harbour additional fragments of the chain system. This occurrence is usual when the top guide breaks and falls down, resulting in a failure.
Mastervest
Based on its appearance, the car you are referring to seems to be a first-generation Mini with the Tritec engine, which is considered to be of high quality. The components might potentially consist of: Timing chain guide. The timing chain cover has integrated webbing designed to secure the chain onto the bottom sprocket. The chain became detached when it became slack. What is the issue with the washer? This automobile previously had a malfunctioning chain. If the current situation is satisfactory, then you should be in a state of being acceptable or satisfactory. If not, at least in the UK, there is a large number of first-generation Minis being dismantled, making it inexpensive and simple to get a new engine. Racerse
It seems like someone accidentally dropped a head bolt washer. Sprocket debris indicates that it has had a substantial occurrence in the past. The inclusion of this information implies that it was a cost-effective fix.
