I just purchased a 2004 645i Convertible E64, equipped with a vehicle phone located in the central console.

Will the device allow me to make and receive calls if I insert a mobile SIM card?

Wouldn't a phone of that vintage lack 3G capability? I have received information indicating that the 3G network would be deactivated in the United Kingdom.

3G, 4G, and 5G are types of data communications. The 2G network will be operational until 2033 and utilises the GSM standard. Therefore, the vehicle phone is expected to remain functional even after the discontinuation of the 3G network.

Ideally, you will want the automobile manual to provide guidance on setting up the phone and obtaining a complimentary sim card.

If you do not own one, consider searching for it on eBay or use a search engine to find one of the vendors specialising in automobile manuals.
