Authorce
I have replaced both nearside wheels on the SLK. I assume that the TPMS will report on their previous wheel placement? Is it possible to reset and return them to their proper 'side' using iCarsoft, or is this a task for Xentry/STAR? Alternatively, do they reset automatically, allowing the vehicle to recognize the new locations independently? I will operate the vehicle and use the iCarsoft when I get the opportunity tomorrow, but I am curious if anybody has knowledge or experience with this. I needed to get the NSF refinished on the diamond-cut rim of the black AMG wheel due to my own error. The individual said that both the front and rear near-side wheels had been serviced once or twice before and had no remaining lip. Anticipating the likelihood of requiring further attention, I compensated my regular tire fitters to replace them.
DownContent
Each time I have exchanged wheels using the same sensors, they have linked seamlessly. Uncertain. Edit: Ah, I get now; you are referring about having switched sides?
Authorce
I am involved with Ant, indeed, I have changed allegiances. I will ascertain the real reference of the display; nonetheless, it remains possible that it may be accurate.
DownContent
I had never considered it, to be honest. I have only exchanged the sensors with new wheels and reinstalled them on the same corner. As you said, it will be necessary to delete and reinstall each component separately. Is it advisable to record the varying pressures on each tire and take a little drive? Determine if the system recalibrates on both sides. Indifference
AmericaMonster
Clearly, the vehicle is aware of the positions of its wheels, such as front right and rear left; but, do the wheel sensors possess the intelligence to recognize this and retain that information? Do they not just report pressures, regardless of their location?
MaxiBroadway
Some systems, like the Lexus as seen below, use signal strength to ascertain sensor position.

AmericaMonster
If I get this accurately, the tire unit lacks awareness of its location; instead, the ECU determines it based on the signal's reaction time. In such scenario, exchanging wheels laterally and longitudinally should have no effect. I had not previously considered this, since all my automobiles prior to the BMW used ABS sensors to monitor the rolling radius for tire pressure discrepancies. MaxiBroadway
This applies to auto-locating systems, however I am uncertain whether other TPMS systems operate similarly. The tire sensors just transmit pressure, temperature, and their identification number.
