Currently, automobiles tend to have mechanical or electrical malfunctions far before their engines die. (However, this may not apply to the most recent iteration of small-displacement, high-boost engines.) I own a 2.0 diesel Alfa Romeo with a mileage of 174,000 miles. At my workplace, there are two heavily used Astra vans, one with a mileage of 184,000 miles and the other with a mileage of 169,000 miles. The mileage on my Ranger is around 150,000 miles. We own a 2017 Golf Mk7 with a mileage of 212,000 kilometres as well. (I commute daily from Bridport to Chichester and return.) With the exception of the ALFA, none of these automobiles are adored.Recently, I became aware that my Ranger, which is mostly used for towing, had gone over 4 years without an oil change. There is a valid argument for purchasing a vehicle with lesser mileage due to its higher resale value and little decrease in worth.
