Starat
Is there a method to determine whether my engine has been remapped without the use of specialised tools? I just purchased this automobile and now I am facing an issue with the NOX sensors, which need to be changed. However, I have been informed that in rare cases, changing the NOX sensor may require programming and updating the whole Engine Control Unit (ECU). If the engine has been mapped, this process might possibly result in an ECU crash. I am familiar with the garage and have confidence in their services. I would want to inquire whether there is a method for verifying the accuracy of their work. Is there a tool available that enables for the backup and restoration of an ECU in the event of a crash? I recall that Ford had this feature available in the past. Thank you.
AmericaMonster
Without the use of specialised equipment and a meticulous forensic study, it is improbable to determine if it has undergone remapping. There are tools available that can be connected to transfer maps. However, if the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has a crash, it may not be responsive to the device. If you recently made a purchase, did you get it from an authorised dealer or a professional trader? If such is the case, then it is their responsibility to resolve the issue, not yours. Darthilli
It would be advisable to verify the integrity of the dpf, ensuring that it remains undamaged and free from any welding on its surface. Certain vehicles equipped with adblue may have had their system deactivated due to malfunctions.
Captiva
If an engine or engine module has undergone remapping, when connected to an MB diagnostic system, the screen will display a flashing red indicator or similar signal, indicating the presence of a remap. If you have just installed the newest versions of NOx sensors, it is necessary to load updated software into the Engine ECU. This task can only be performed by authorised dealers, and maybe by an independent technician who has a full MB STAR membership.
Mantelle
Uploading a new version of the software to the ECU will probably erase any existing remapping.
Talentrews
It should not be very challenging. Insurance company loss adjusters are often able to determine this information within a short span of approximately 2 minutes using the appropriate instrument. You may also consider consulting my friend who has an M5 for more confirmation. He was pardoned since the incident occurred before to his purchase and he was ignorant of it. Starat
I will be doing the task next week at my nearby independent garage, which has a subscription to MB and is capable of conducting system updates if necessary for the NOx sensor. They inquired if I am aware of any remapping, since they have had instances in the past when the ECU crashed during system updates.
Starat
Captiva So, if I understand correctly, you are suggesting that I locate a 2017 NOx sensor that does not need an update?
Captiva
Which do you prioritise more - a fully operational AdBlue system or keeping the remap? If you choose the older NOx sensors, they are less dependable and will fail earlier or again, but they do not need updated software. However, they are less reliable compared to the newer NOx sensors, which do require a software update.
AmericaMonster
The task becomes challenging just due to a lack of knowledge or understanding.
Inspirli
Upon the conclusion of our VW Towrag lease, the collecting personnel used a scanner to inspect for any suspicious alterations to the mileage. Remaps and deletions may also be verified. I am relieved to be done with it.... I had six warranty problems within a mileage of 25,000.
Starat
Once again, I am uncertain if this automobile has undergone remapping. It would be preferable to have updated software, unless it has already been installed. However, there is a potential danger of an ECU crash. MundeDas
What is the age of this vehicle? If the item is relatively new, it may be worthwhile to hire a reputable independent technician or even a professional from the manufacturer to connect it. Inspirli
If you have concerns, you may request that the dealer first install the most up-to-date standard map before making any modifications to the NOX sensors.
Starat
That is a commendable idea, as it will prompt and inquire about the action before the nocturnal alteration occurs!
Inspirli
I have one annually. Unfortunately, I will have to wait until 2025 for the next one.
Cincoon
Indeed. I agree with Chris Harris and his admiration for the M5 Touring.
Micobe
The OBD mode $09 CALID represents a cryptographic value that serves as a verification of the integrity of the boot, code, and data stored in the module. In order to ascertain if a remap has been performed, the manufacturer will examine the software's part number, cross-reference it with the anticipated CALID for that particular version, and then get the real CALID from the module. If there is no match, then you have been experimenting or adjusting. If you are referring to a situation where the electronic control unit (ECU) becomes inoperable due to incorrect software flashing, it is quite unlikely to occur while using a manufacturer tool such as Xentry. The system will verify the already installed software and only provide compatible options. Subsequently, the flash boot loader in the module will do further verifications before proceeding with the upgrade.
