The new fuel return hose is difficult to attach to the metal.

See the photo? I cut a fuel return hose at the tiny plastic fitting on the metal fuel line at a T-piece; it wasn't the injectors.
The new return hose component I purchased looks off because the push fit at the metal fixing point doesn't fully engage. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations. I am grateful.

Apply a small amount of diesel oil and make sure the metal bit is clear of any obstructions.
