Perhaps the F36 steering rack?

I possess a 67-plate 430d, and while manoeuvring slowly and turning, I hear a knocking noise that appears to originate from the driver's side. The steering is smooth, and there is no noise when the wheel is turned in place, but only while turning when moving slowly. I am removing the tray to inspect the suspension components in case it is an arm or similar part. Can anyone provide guidance or identify the issue based on my description, specifically about if it is likely a bearing problem?
I have read that some automobiles may lack a repair kit due to varying steering racks installed. Could someone inform me about the specific steering rack I possess and whether a repair kit is available?

It is likely the thrust piece; the 4 series includes racks with an available thrust piece repair kit, as I have replaced several.

With the engine off, oscillate the steering wheel laterally and observe for any noise emanating from the rack.
