The rear subframe of the W212 is corroded.

This is not a question, but rather some information that I would want to share with the group.

Today, my 2012 W212 E350 estate with 81,000 kilometres failed its MOT. Deteriorated subframe. Evidently, this issue is often seen on this particular model.

MB Colchester informed me that they had already reached out to MB UK, who have granted authorisation to cover the cost.

Clearly, it is important to address additional issues such as brake lines and rear spring link arms while the main issue is being resolved. MB Colchester has verified the integrity of all newly installed bolts, brackets, and other components.

Although the amount is still substantial, it would have been far more if MB UK had not taken action. I have had the automobile for a duration of 9 years, and this is the first significant repair I have undertaken, except the air suspension. Therefore, I have no grounds for complaint.

The only concern with having MB do extra work is the possibility of incurring exorbitant labour expenses for the other items. However, if an independent mechanic were to undertake the task, the process of removing and reinstalling the subframe alone would need a minimum of 5 hours of effort. Therefore, it could be justifiable to have MB handle the job. If you are willing to provide a quotation for the brake lines and other components, it would be very appreciated as a benchmark for when I take my vehicle to MB Beaconsfield.

Indeed. Other relevant papers pertaining to the extraction of subframes include:

Install a customised self-leveling sensor and replace the rear spring link arms. The amount is £643.

The cost of replacing the brake lines on both sides is £562.

The prices shown already include the value-added tax (VAT).

Thank you very much. I will also consider other possible actions. It is worth noting that my independent GLM (garage, mechanic, or technician) is very skilled and competent. He successfully replaced the brake lines by removing the subframe himself, and the cost for this work was only GBP 760. It is intriguing to compare this with the fact that MB (Mercedes-Benz) would charge GBP 560 for the same service without including the labour for removing the subframe. However, this is the reality of the situation.
