DolSquirrel
The power steering system of my 2012 Range Rover Evoque had a failure. I paid a sum of £200 to have it towed to Stratstone in Reading. The steering rack requires replacement and they provided a cost of £3800. According to their statement, the bolts are undamaged and thus do not meet the criteria for being included in the recall. They have proposed a sum of £300 as a purchase offer, which would eliminate the need for me to tow it back home. Alternatively, they are willing to provide £1000 as a contribution towards a part exchange. Something seems off. Does anybody have any guidance or recommendations? Thank you everyone
DolSquirrel
Is it necessary to replace the bolts as part of the recall? It is quite distressing that I spent £15,000 in 2019 just for it to have a value of £300 now.
Messand
I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties, that's quite unfortunate. Undoubtedly, the value of your resale and trade-in is more than that. Hopefully, someone with more expertise on the recall can provide you with assistance.
DolSquirrel
We appreciate your remark! I am optimistic about the recall.
Istairde
The recall was initiated to repair the bolts and any racks that had bolt failure. A new rack will be installed free of charge. The total cost of the estimated price and the rack amounts to £3,800. However, it is worth noting that a remanufactured rack may be replaced for around £1,800. If you are positive that the EPS box is the component that has broken, you may consider purchasing a second-hand one as an alternative. However, it is important to consider the additional expense of having it installed.
DolSquirrel
I much appreciate your assistance. Should the bolts be replaced under the recall? They claim to be unharmed, yet my power steering rack is damaged!
Dudeta
Request a video that clearly displays your automobile positioned on a ramp and specifically highlights the bolts that remain undisturbed.

baelicious
Describe the consequences of the failure and if the automobile remains operable but with significant difficulty in steering. Have the fuses been inspected?
DolSquirrel
Indeed, I am still capable of manoeuvring the vehicle. The diagnostics conducted at the dealership indicate that the steering rack is damaged, but the bolts remain undamaged. This issue seems to be related to a recall, rather than a direct failure of the steering rack. Additionally, the fuses have been inspected and confirmed to be functioning properly. I appreciate your attempt to assist me.
Istairde
So, just to clarify, are we correct in understanding that the automobile is capable of driving and you can easily adjust the steering wheel from one lock position to another with only one finger, without any audible noises such as crunching, banging, or rattling? If the answer to the previous question is yes, please specify the exact issue with it, assuming it is not related to the EPS bolts.
Kiddokt
Verify the presence of aluminium bolts. If your answer is yes, then you are in for the recall. Apply a magnet to them.
