Liveek
Good morning. A acquaintance of mine has a 2010 ML300 and has experienced a significant increase in resistance while attempting to turn the power-assisted steering (PAS). I have not examined it yet, but he informs me that it is the updated PAS system including an electric motor system instead of a conventional mechanical pump. Has anybody encountered similar experiences? Thank you very much
AmericaMonster
Are the tyre pressures low, are the tyres worn, is the tracking off, or is there low fluid?
Sumoto
There is no presence of fluid; instead, it is powered by electricity.
AmericaMonster
Well observed, Sir. It is unusual for me to make an error.
Captiva
I have also replaced some of the lower "dogbone" components that connect the column to the rack located at the bottom of the engine compartment. The universal joint may become immobilised. This task is simple to uninstall and reinstall.
Captiva
The system does include a fluid, but instead of using a belt, it use an electric motor to power the pump.
AmericaMonster
I considered it improbable that I was mistaken. Thank you, Mr.
Sumoto
I have not seen electric Pas systems like the one you mentioned. The Corsa and Mito models do not use fluid in their Pas systems.
Mantelle
We had a similar issue with our little Yaris car, where it required significant physical strength to disengage the drive on one occasion. However, the situation improved as we reached the conclusion of our journey. The battery, and therefore the alternator, were in a deteriorated state, lacking sufficient power to operate the steering motor effectively at very low revolutions. I asked my wife to read the guidebook on my behalf. A red 'PS' indicator should have illuminated on the dashboard. Initially, it did not, but it subsequently did. An really peculiar anomaly that I had not encountered previously...nor have I encountered it since.
